Why Salah?

The first deed judged. The pillar of the deen. Five daily appointments with the King of Kings — prayed as He commanded, they erase sins like a river at the door (Bukhari & Muslim).

إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا

"Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers at specified times." — 4:103

Conditions

  • Islam, sanity, maturity
  • Purity — wudu / ghusl
  • Clean body, clothes, place
  • Covering the 'awrah
  • Facing the qiblah
  • The time having entered
  • The intention (niyyah)

The Shape of a Rak'ah

  • Takbir — Allahu Akbar
  • Qiyam — recite Al-Fatihah + surah
  • Ruku' — Subhana Rabbiyal-Azim
  • Qiyam again — Sami'allahu liman hamidah
  • Sujud — Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la
  • Sit, then sujud again
  • Final tashahhud + salam

The Five Daily Prayers

  • Fajr — 2 sunnah + 2 fard (dawn)
  • Dhuhr — 4 fard (after zenith)
  • Asr — 4 fard (afternoon)
  • Maghrib — 3 fard (sunset)
  • Isha — 4 fard (night)
  • + Jumu'ah replaces Dhuhr on Friday

Guarding It

Pray on time — the most beloved deed. Pray it even when tired, even when busy, even when the heart feels heavy: that is precisely when it is medicine. "Seek help through patience and prayer." (2:153)

What Breaks Wudu

  • Relieving oneself
  • Passing wind
  • Deep sleep / loss of awareness
  • Then renew — for "the key to prayer is purity" (Abu Dawud)
