فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
"So pray to your Lord and sacrifice." — Qur'an 108:2. The Eid of Ibrahim's devotion, the ram, and meat on every table.
The 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, after the day of 'Arafah. Eat after the Eid prayer — from your own sacrifice if you have one. Bath, best clothes, perfume, a different road out and back, and the takbir on every tongue: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil-hamd. The takbirat after the fardh prayers run from Fajr of the 9th to 'Asr of the 13th.
Fasting the day of 'Arafah expiates two years — Sahih Muslim 1162
Both schools pray two rak'ahs, then the khutbah, with extra takbirs and no adhan or iqamah (Sahih al-Bukhari 956). Where the schools differ is how many takbirs, and where — pick your school:
In the Hanafi school the Eid prayer is wajib on everyone Jumu'ah is wajib on. Six extra takbirs: three in each rak'ah, hands raised with each one.
Imam opens with Allahu akbar. You say the thana quietly: Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika… then listen.
The imam says three extra takbirs. Raise your hands with each; after the third, fold them and recite.
Al-Fatihah and a surah aloud, then bow and prostrate as usual — first rak'ah done.
Stand, recite al-Fatihah + surah. Only then the three takbirs, hands raised.
The fourth takbir of the second rak'ah is the one that bows — no hand-raise, just bow. Then finish with tashahhud and salam.
In the Shafi'i school the Eid prayer is sunnah mu'akkadah. Twelve takbirs: seven in the first rak'ah before reciting, five in the second. (The Maliki and Hanbali schools pray a very similar arrangement — follow your imam.)
After the opening du'a, the imam says seven takbirs. Hands rise with each; between them a light dhikr: Subhanallah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar.
Al-Fatihah + surah aloud, ruku, sujuds — the first rak'ah complete.
Stand, recite al-Fatihah + surah first, then five takbirs with raised hands.
The takbir that ends the five is the bow. Rise, two sujuds, tashahhud, salam — then stay for the khutbah.
2 rak'ahs in congregation, then the khutbah
no adhan · no iqamah · come early, leave smiling
3+3 hanafi · 7+5 shafi'i — both from the Sunnah
Every year the Deenuna family buys healthy, sunnah-quality goats, sacrifices them on your behalf after the Eid prayer, and sees the meat reach your family, your neighbours and the poor of Lusaka. One message books it.
Tell us your name and how many shares, and we handle the rest: the goat, the slaughter on the day of Eid with your name on the intention, and the distribution in three — your home, your relatives, and those who have nothing.

One goat covers one person; a cow or camel may be shared seven ways. The time is from after the Eid prayer until the 12th (the 13th is wide too). From the 1st of Dhul-Hijjah, the one sacrificing leaves his hair and nails — Sahih Muslim 1977.
Both counts come down through the sahabah, and the ummah has prayed both since the first century. Wherever you stand, you are standing on a sunnah — and the khutbah after the salah is part of the morning. Listen to it if you can.
