Feeling anxious
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
"There is no god but You, glory be to You — I was of the wrongdoers." The du'a of Yunus from the belly of the whale. "No Muslim ever prays with it for anything but that Allah answers him."
Feeling sad
اللَّهُمَّ رَحْمَتَكَ أَرْجُو فَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ
"O Allah, I hope for Your mercy, so do not leave me to myself for even the blink of an eye."
Feeling angry
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
"I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan." The Prophet ﷺ said this one sentence cools anger on the spot.
Feeling afraid
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
"Allah is sufficient for us, and the best disposer of affairs." Said by Ibrahim in the fire, and by the Prophet ﷺ when armies gathered.
Studying
رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
"My Lord, increase me in knowledge." Short, total, and answered since it was revealed.
Travelling
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ
"Glory to Him who subjected this to us, and we could never have it by our efforts. And to our Lord we will surely return."
Someone is sick
أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ
"I ask Allah the Mighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal you." Said 7 times over the sick.
Can't sleep
بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّ وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ
"In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and by You I raise it." Lay down with it and the bed becomes a place of aman.
Worried about provision
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
"O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your unlawful, and enrich me with Your bounty beyond all besides You."
Seeking forgiveness
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ
"My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance." The Prophet ﷺ said it a hundred times in a single sitting.
For my parents
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
"My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small."
For children
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
"My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of du'a." — the du'a of Zakariyya.
It is raining
اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
"O Allah, make it a beneficial downpour." Du'a is answered when the rain falls.
For marriage
رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ
"Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes."
Carrying debt
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ
"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from helplessness and laziness…" — and Allah made the debt easy.
New morning
أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ
"We have entered the morning and the dominion belongs to Allah." Start the day owned by nothing but Him.
Evening falls
أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ
"We have entered the evening and the dominion belongs to Allah." Close the day in His hands.
Before eating
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ
"In the name of Allah." And if you forget, say: Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu.
After eating
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ
"Praise be to Allah who fed me this and provided it without any might or power from me." Past sins forgiven with it.
Overwhelmed
لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
"There is no might nor power except with Allah." A treasure from beneath the Throne — the believer's oxygen.
Feeling grateful
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتُ
"Praise be to Allah, by whose favour good deeds are completed." For every win, big or small.
Entering the masjid
اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
"O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy." Right foot first.
Leaving the house
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
"In Allah's name, I trust in Allah; there is no might nor power except with Allah." You are guided, defended and protected.
Need strength
يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ
"O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help — rectify for me all of my affairs."
